Five athletes and five teams who made an impact on the local preps scene this past week:

Five athletes

Samuel Stockton, Resurrection Christian wrestling: The Cougars senior capped his high school career with his second state championship Saturday at Ball Arena.

Stockton pinned Mullen’s Champion Dyes in the Class 3A 285s title match to secure a perfect season, his second in as many years. He also won his 100th career match in his semifinal victory Friday.

Donavon Farrell, Berthoud wrestling: The Spartans junior won his first Colorado state wrestling championship Saturday at Ball Arena at 215s in Class 3A.

In the title bout, he defeated Andrew Richins of The Classical Academy by fall in 3 minutes, 25 seconds. He won three of his matches by fall and his semifinal by a 9-5 decision.

Egan Koenig, Resurrection Christian basketball: The Cougars senior led his team in scoring in both of RCS’ games last week, losses to Yuma on Tuesday and Eaton in the first round of the Patriot League tournament Friday.

Against the Outlaws, Koenig scored 18 points with four 3-pointers. Against the Reds, he scored 15 points with a pair of 3-pointers. He is averaging 17.4 points per game.

Saydee Lussenhop, Loveland wrestling: The Red Wolves sophomore placed in the top two at the state tournament for the second year in a row, placing second Saturday at Ball Arena.

A season after winning the 100s state title in Class 5A, she was in the final again Saturday but lost a 6-2 decision to Falcon’s Allison McDaniel to finish as the state runner-up.

Julia Schnell, Berthoud wrestling: The Spartans sophomore followed up her runner-up finish in 2025 by finishing third at 110s in Class 4A at the state tournament Saturday at Ball Arena.

After losing in the quarterfinal round, Schnell won her way back to the third-place match where she defeated Liberty’s Sky Richards in a 6-2 decision.

Five teams

Thompson Valley wrestling: Led by a pair of state champions, the Eagles finished ninth in Class 4A at the state tournament Saturday at Ball Arena with 80 points.

Senior Wyatt Malara at 165s and Ty Eversman at 144s both won their first state championships. Senior Jackson Eversman also placed for the Eagles, finishing fifth at 150s.

Resurrection Christian girls basketball: The Cougars won three games last week against Yuma, Colorado Academy and Sterling to run their winning streak to seven.

RCS’ victory over the Outlaws on Tuesday clinched the 3A Patriot League championship for the Cougars. They closed out their regular season Wednesday against Colorado Academy before winning their Patriot League tournament opener against Sterling on Friday.

Loveland boys wrestling: The Red Wolves finished 10th in Class 5A at the state tournament over the weekend at Ball Arena with 43.5 points.

Senior Bryce Hayman was the top placer for the Red Wolves, finishing second at 190s. Loveland also had a pair of sixth-place finishers, Dominik Ortiz at 120s and Christian Carroll at 144s.

Loveland Classical girls basketball: The Lions won three games last week, including victories that clinched the 3A/2A Foothills League regular-season championship and the league tournament title.

In a 47-39 victory over Golden View Classical Academy on Wednesday, the Lions completed a perfect run through league play to claim the title. Then Friday, they defeated Golden View Classical again in the semifinals of the league tournament before defeating Addenbrooke Classical Academy on Saturday to claim the event title.

Mountain View boys basketball: The Mountain Lions won a pair of games last week and will head into the Class 5A playoffs on a three-game winning streak.

On Tuesday, Mountain View defeated Northridge, 86-67, and Thursday, they defeated Greeley Central, 70-61. Against Greeley Central, Cole Tonniges led the Mountain Lions with 28 points and nine rebounds. Against Northridge, Tonniges had 22 points and eight rebounds.
