Five athletes and five teams who made an impact on the local preps scene this past week:

Five athletes 

Tatum Van Pelt, Resurrection Christian track and field: The Cougars junior won three individual events and anchored a relay to first place at the KC Logan R2J Invitational on Friday at Max Marr Stadium in Berthoud.

In her first meet of the season after helping lead the RCS girls basketball team to the 3A Final Four, she won the 100-meter dash (12.87 seconds), the 200 (26.22) and the triple jump (33 feet, 9 inches). She also was the Cougars’ final runner in their winning 4×100 relay (51.09).

JJ Phillips, Mountain View swimming/track and field: The Mountain Lions senior broke a 14-year-old school record in the 100-yard breaststroke during a quad meet with Thompson Valley, Liberty Common and Estes Park on Thursday at the Mountain View Aquatic Center.

Phillips touched the wall in 1:01.02, the third-fastest time in Class 4A this season. Then on Friday, he transitioned to the track at the Roosevelt Power Meet Invitational in Johnstown and finished fifth out of 66 runners in the 400 in 51.77.

Cole Underwood, Loveland baseball: The Red Wolves senior pitched a gem in Loveland’s 7-0 shutout of Poudre on Tuesday at Owens Field.

In six innings against the Impalas, Underwood allowed no runs on only one hit while striking out 13 and walking three. In three plate appearances, he helped himself with a hit, a walk, an RBI and a run scored.

Avery Tychsen, Berthoud golf: The Spartans junior tied for third with an 89 at the Fort Morgan West Invitational on Thursday at Quail Dunes Golf Course, three strokes behind the second-place finisher and five behind the winner.

Tychsen shot 6 over par on the front nine and 9 over on the back nine, including a 4 on the par-5 12th hole. The Spartans finished second as a team with a score of 294, six strokes behind first-place Windsor (288).

Madeline Clark, Mountain View track and field: The Mountain Lions senior continued her record-breaking season Saturday at the Niwot Invitational, setting school marks in two races.

After breaking the Thompson School District record in the 800 earlier this season, she set Mountain View records in both the 200 and 400 in Niwot. In the 400, she finished sixth out of 77 runners in 57.03. In the 200, she finished eighth out of 112 runners in 25.63. In Class 4A this season, she has the fastest time in the 800, sixth-fastest in the 400 and ninth-fastest in the 200.

Five teams

Resurrection Christian baseball: The Cougars christened their new on-campus field with a pair of victories last week over Peak to Peak on Tuesday and Brush on Thursday.

In their 10-2 victory over the Pumas, Carson Klein led the Cougars with two hits and four RBIs. Will Busby allowed two runs and struck out six in seven innings on the mound. Against the Beetdiggers, Carter Emslie singled home Klein to break a 3-3 tie with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give RCS a 4-3 victory.

Loveland boys track and field: The Red Wolves easily won the KC Logan R2J Invitational on Friday at Max Marr Stadium, scoring 188 points, 79 more than second-place Vista Peak (109).

For the Red Wolves, Ashton Daly won the shot put (50-1.50) and the discus (151-11). Jackson Conroy won the 100 (11.24) and the long jump (22-2). Preston Evans won the 110 hurdles (15.10) and the 300 hurdles (40.68). Loveland also won the 4×400 relay (3:26.04) and the 4×800 relay (9:17.69).

Mountain View boys volleyball: The Mountain Lions improved to 9-0 this season with three more victories last week, two against Arrupe Jesuit and one against Severance.

Mountain View, ranked No. 4 in Class 4A, swept both matches against the Generals, 25-10, 25-12, 25-6 on Monday and 25-8, 25-12, 25-6 on Thursday. On Friday, the Mountain Lions swept the Silver Knights. Set scores were not available.

Resurrection Christian girls golf: The Cougars finished second at the Liberty Common Eagle Invite on Wednesday at Southridge Golf Course in Fort Collins.

RCS carded a team score of 234, 18 behind first-place Timnath. Individually for the Cougars, Karina Garcia tied for second with a 71. Addy Moreno was fifth with a 79 and Avery Stockslager and Brittyn Goings tied for sixth with an 84.

Loveland girls track and field: The Red Wolves won the KC Logan R2J Invitational on Friday at Max Marr Stadium with 173 points, 23 more than second-place Legacy (150).

Individually for Loveland, Brynn Torres won the 800 (2:25.21) and the 1,600 (5:04.78). Ava Wankelman won the long jump (15-7.25) and the pole vault (11-7). Sydney Brantley won the 3,200 (11:41.5) and the Red Wolves won the 4×400 relay (4:21.32) and the 4×800 relay (10:17.59).
