Poetry Programs
Poet George Kalamaras will read from his work at 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, April 3, at the First United Presbyterian Church, 400 E. Fourth St.
His poems have appeared in many magazines and anthologies, including Best American Poetry, Colorado Review, Denver Quarterly, and Kenyon Review. He is the author of 27 collections of poetry, including, most recently, “The Rain That Doesn’t Reach the Ground” (2025, Dos Madres Press).
The next day, at 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 4, Kalamaras will lead a workshop titled “Poetry, Not Poison! How to Make Our Poetic Practice a Generative Experience” In the Devereaux/Hach Room of the Rialto Theater Center, 226 E. Fourth St., upstairs, above Door 222).
Thanks to the Loveland Poet Laureate Program, the workshop is free, but a donation of $15 is requested (cards and cash accepted at the door). Registration is requested; visit lovelandpoetlaureate.org/events. A selection of Kalamaras’s books will be for sale at the event.
Garden Talks
The Colorado State University Master Gardeners Lecture Series will focus on “How The Environment Impacts Gardening In Colorado” in a session at noon-1 p.m. Friday, April 3, at the Loveland Public Library, 300 N. Adams Ave., in the Gertrude Scott Room.
Master Gardener Jon Weiss will discuss various environmental issues (water, temperature, sunlight) that influence gardening in Colorado and investigate ways to mitigate them.
Whether new to plants or eager to expand your knowledge, join in the series to pick up some fresh ideas, learn useful skills and connect with local experts who make gardening in Colorado easier.
The series will continue with “Tiny Victory Gardens: Growing Vegetables Without a Yard” at noon-1 p.m. Friday, April 10. Master Gardener Susan Bonsall will explore the renewed importance of vegetable gardening by connecting the legacy of Victory Gardens with today’s ecological, economic, and social challenges.
At noon-1 p.m. Friday, April 17, Master Gardener Frank Lancaster will discuss effective pruning and care techniques for trees and shrubs to support plant health, prevent disease, improve safety, enhance flowering and fruiting, and boost the overall beauty of the landscape.
The talks are free, and registration is not required.

FORT COLLINS
‘Minilab’ Exhibit
A solo exhibition by Juana Bastardo, “Minilab for Future Inspection of Color: Toward a Chromatic Forensics,” will open Friday, April 3, at the Museum of Art Fort Collins, 201 S. College Ave.
It will be on display through June 5.
The Guadalajara-based Mexican artist’s exhibit examines color not simply as a visual attribute, but as a sort of technological artifact and historical archive. Within his framework, every pigment, luminous surface or digital color value carries traces of the systems that produced it.
Museum hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday, closed Monday and Tuesday.
Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for ages 65 and older, and free to those under 18, museum members, Colorado State University and Front Range Community College students, military or veterans and SNAP recipients. Educators get 50% off admission with ID.

Square Dancing
Square Dusters is going Steam Powered for a night of dancing fun at 7-9:30 p.m. Friday, April 3, at Club Tico, 1599 City Park Drive.
Think goggles, gears, and a touch of Victorian adventure; everyone is invited to dress in steampunk style if they wish and bring that imaginative spirit to the dance floor.
The caller will be Roger Schappell and cuer is Becky Evans. Rounds will start at 7 p.m. and squares at 7:30 p.m.
Nondancing visitors are welcome at no charge. The suggested donation is $10 for visiting dancers and $9 for member dancers.

‘Gospel Side of Elvis’
“The Gospel Side of Elvis” will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday, April 3, at Union Colony Civic Center, 701 10th Ave.

First Friday
Downtown Greeley will relaunch its First Friday series, beginning April 3.
The event will be a monthly celebration of art, creativity and local businesses, held at 5-8 p.m. on the first Friday of each month from April through September.
