LOVELAND
Pioneer Roads Talk

The Loveland Historical Society will hear a program by Ken Jessen on “Larimer County Pioneer Roads” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at the Loveland Museum, 503 N. Lincoln Ave..
The first road into Larimer County with scheduled stage and postal service was the Overland Trail. It forged new routes combined with existing ones. Other formal roads followed: the Big Thompson Canyon Road, which opened Loveland as the gateway to Estes Park, replacing the old Pole Hill Road; Fall River Road into North Park; the ambitious Trail Ridge Road, which became part of U.S. 34, the highest continuous road in the United States; and Poudre Canyon Road, opening the upper canyon beyond what the Red Feather Lakes Road had done.
The talk is open to the public.

Library History Talk
The Fort Collins Historical Society will explore the past, present, and future of the Fort Collins library system (now Poudre Libraries) in a program at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 23, at the Old Town Library, 201 Peterson St., in the Community Room.
The talk will trace how the library system has evolved alongside the community it serves. From its earliest days, Fort Collins residents saw the library as more than a place for books. They believed it could shape behavior and strengthen civic life, even imagining that access to good reading would keep young railroad men out of saloons and away from houses of ill repute. The talk will look at how those early moral ambitions gave rise to an enduring public institution, and how today’s library district continues to adapt, expand, and redefine its role in the life of the city.
The talk is free and open to the public.
