With the high school baseball regular season coming to an end next Tuesday, a trio of local baseball teams still have aspirations for postseason play.

Resurrection Christian is in the most comfortable position to earn a berth in a regional May 15-16. Berthoud is on the bubble, and Mountain View has work to do.

At the conclusion of the regular season, which ends Monday for all three squads, the top 32 teams in CHSAA’s Selection & Seeding Index will qualify for one of eight four-team regionals.

In Class 3A, Resurrection Christian is currently No. 14. The Cougars were as high as No. 9 after defeating Class 4A No. 12 Fort Morgan last Thursday but dropped several spots after losing to 3A No. 13 Colorado Academy on Saturday.

RCS head coach Mike Magaro said after his team defeated Berthoud 8-3 last Tuesday he would love to host a regional on his team’s new field, and the Cougars still have a chance to do so with three games remaining.

The Cougars will play three games in five days against teams ranked higher than them. On Thursday, they will face 3A No. 12 Sterling, followed by 3A No. 2 Eaton on Friday and 2A No. 1 Forge Christian on Monday.

Wins against any of those teams could push the Cougars up in the rankings.

RCS is currently 11-9 overall and 7-1 in the 4A/3A/2A Patriot League. The Cougars’ only conference loss came against top-ranked University, a game in which they were ahead 4-3 going into the bottom of the fifth inning before losing 6-4.

While the Cougars should make a regional for the ninth year in a row as a 3A program, Berthoud is looking to extend its postseason streak as well.

The Spartans are No. 32 in Class 3A going into their final two games — both against No. 22 Wellington on Saturday and Monday. Berthoud likely needs to at least split those games to ensure a regional spot for the fourth year in a row.

Berthoud is 8-13 overall and 6-8 in the 4A/3A Longs Peak League. Wellington is the team right above them in the conference standings at 11-9 overall and 9-5 in the league.

Mountain View is currently on the outside looking in at the postseason picture. The Mountain Lions are No. 39 in the Selection & Seeding Index with three games remaining.

They will likely have to win all three — Friday at Thomas Jefferson and then Saturday and Monday against Thompson Valley — to have a chance to play past the regular season for the first time since 2022.

The Mountain Lions are 8-11 on the season and 6-8 in the Longs Peak League.

Loveland and Thompson Valley are essentially out of the postseason hunt. The Red Wolves are 7-13 with three games remaining and No. 43 in the Class 5A rankings. The Eagles are 7-14 with two games remaining and No. 51 in the 4A rankings.
