
For the first time ever, postseason boys volleyball will be played at Mountain View.
A year after qualifying for its first-ever Class 4A regional, the Mountain Lions this season will get the chance to host one Friday in the comfort of their home gym.
Mountain View is the No. 3 seed in the 4A field and will host No. 14 DSST: College View and No. 22 Vail Christian. The winner will advance to the 4A state tournament May 7-9 at Fountain-Fort Carson’s Trojan Arena.
The Mountain Lions (19-4) and Vail Christian (5-13) will play in the first match at 1 p.m. Friday followed by DSST: College View (11-9) and Vail Christian at 3 p.m. Mountain View and DSST: College View will then play in the third match at 5 p.m.
The home regional is just another first for the program that began in 2021 and struggled for four years before breaking out last season with a 14-11 record, first postseason appearance and first postseason victory.
Mountain View was the No. 11 seed last season and defeated Hinkley before losing to Denver Waldorf.
The Mountain Lions won a program-best 19 matches in the regular season and clinched the Northern 4A League championship outright with a 3-1 victory over Forge Christian on Tuesday. Mountain View was 14-1 in league play.
Mountain View began the season with 13 straight wins before losing its only league matchup to Stargate School in three sets. The Mountain Lions didn’t lose again until they went to the Overland tournament April 18. They lost all three of their matches against 5A teams Centaurus, Boulder and Overland.
They bounced back to avenge their loss to Stargate in three sets last Tuesday and then clinched their league title against the Fury.
The Mountain Lions have been led offensively by senior Gabe Victor, junior AJ Escalle and Jose Rodriguez, all who have more than 100 kills this season. Junior Jagger Jarosik leads the team in blocks, while senior Jonah Stewart leads in digs with more than 200. Victor and Rodriguez both have more than 200 assists.
