Loveland High alum and current Colorado State Ram thrower Kajsa Borrman is an All-American.
Borrman earned her first collegiate All-American distinction with a sixth-place finish in the weight throw at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships late Tuesday night in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The top eight finishers earned first-team All-American status.
Her sixth-place throw came on her last attempt of the competition. She unleashed a toss of 22.47 meters (73 feet, 8.75 inches) to move up the standings and secure her All-American spot. Anthonette Nabwe of Minnesota won the event with a throw of 25.31 (82-5.5).
The throw was a personal best as well as the second-best mark by a Ram all-time. She now sits behind former indoor nationals runner-up and outdoor nationals champion Loree Smith in CSU record book. Smith also holds the Mountain West Conference record in the event at 74-3.75.
Borrman was in ninth place after three throws and secured a spot in the finals after getting a mark of 21.76 meters (71-4.75) on her third throw. After another couple of subpar throws, she unleashed her final attempt, which ended up being her best.
She went into the national meet having been ranked in the top 16 for most of the season. She reset her personal best in three of her last four competitions before nationals. Her best throw of the season going into Friday’s event was 22.16 meters (72-8.5).
It was the second nationals appearance this year for Borrman, who finished 21st in the hammer throw at last June’s outdoor championships.
